Renovations at the Kyle Scow Memorial skate park in Port Hardy are well underway, with the recreation department promising it will be “wheelie awesome” when it’s finished.
Crews and machinery are now on site, removing the old structures to make way for a significant new footprint, which will include urban and terrain elements. The existing concrete slab will be re-used, saving time and construction costs. Once cleared the site will be prepared for expansion and addition of a new bowl.
Construction will continue throughout fall, with the goal of opening the park in spring next year, weather-permitting. Over a half-million dollars have been allocated for the upgrade to the park, which was built in 2003, no tax increase was required.
The work is being done by Radius Skateparks, a Vancouver Island company.
