Expect heavy rain and snow tonight, as Environment Canada has issued three weather alerts for Vancouver Island.
According to Environment Canada, there will be snow over higher elevations throughout north and inland Vancouver Island today.
The snow comes because of a low-pressure system that will be moving towards the BC south coast, which could see snow levels drop to a low of 250 metres. A potential for 10 cm of snow is set for Highways 4, 19, and 28.
Along with the snow, 30 to 50 millimeters of rain is expected for both the Southern Gulf Islands and east Vancouver Island from Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay.
With the rain set to be more intense this afternoon, there will be occasional wet snow, with Gabriola Island, Thetis Island, and Salt Spring Island having the highest rainfall amounts today.
A rainfall warning is in effect for Nanaimo, Duncan, Ladysmith, Shawnigan Lake, and Malahat, which will see up to 70 millimeters of rain.
Environment Canada says that wet snow will also be mixed in while the rain continues.
They advise you to keep a close eye on the forecast and to adjust your driving to the changing road conditions.
If the rain causes difficulty in driving, you are encouraged to turn on the lights and maintain a safe distance while driving.
