Weather Delays Christmas Light-up

The kick-off of Port Hardy’s Business Festival of Lights near the Visitor Centre has been delayed.

The Chamber of Commerce says the light up event this evening has been cancelled because of the weather.

The chamber says the health and safety of citizens are of utmost importance to us and a decision will be made later about when it will happen.

The festival will run until December 16 and features Christmas decorations and lights donated by local businesses, along with the lighting of a tree at Carrot Park.

It’s a free, family friendly event designed with lighted scenes planned throughout the park for people to view and enjoy.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a wind warning for the region as a frontal system moves through the area bringing strong southeast winds to northern Vancouver Island along with heavy rain.
