North Island RCMP managed to catch logging camp burglars red-handed near Nimpkish Lake, with the help of a police dog.
Police from Port McNeill responded to a break and enter in progress on the evening of December 14, near Nimpkish Lake. Officers caught one man exiting the camp’s mechanical shop with his arms full of alleged stolen goods.
With another suspect at large, police contained the scene until more members from Sayward and Port Hardy arrived, along with a dog services team from the Comox Valley.

After an extensive ground search the second suspect was caught by the dog team at approximately 1 am. Police are now recommending charges against both suspects, who were not from the area.
