The ‘Namgis First Nation is making it easier for new and visiting doctors and nurses to work at Alert Bay’s health centre, by offering temporary housing.
Since May, the nation and Island Health have partnered to find practical ways to attract and retain health professionals on Cormorant Island. They came up with ‘Namgis House, a new multi-unit home which can host two health care workers. A third bedroom is currently under construction.
This year the House has already accommodated 14 visiting health workers.
