For today, the Port Hardy Hospital Emergency Department will be closed.
According to Island Health, the closure is because of limited staffing availability, with the department to re-open at 7:00 a.m. on Christmas day.
They say that anyone experiencing a medical emergency while the department is closed should call 911 or go to Port McNeill Hospital.

They also ask you to not go to the emergency department while it’s closed, because it will delay your access to care.
If you are unsure if a situation you are dealing with needs a hospital visit, Island Health adds you can call HealthLink BC at 811.
The department will be closed from this morning until 5:00 p.m.
