This Thursday in Port Hardy is a special event to raise awareness about violence affecting Indigenous women and girls.
The Sacred Wolf Friendship Centre is sponsoring a gathering in advance of May 5, which is national Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2-Spirit Awareness Day.
This day is dedicated to raising awareness that Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit persons are more likely to experience acts of violence than any other demographic in Canada.
Members of the community are invited to participate to commemorate, honour, and remember those whose lives have been lost. There will be a march, weather-permitting.
It will be held Thursday from 11 am – 1:30 pm, at the Fort Rupert Big House. Visit the District’s Facebook page for more details.
