A local not-for-profit hopes to get swim passes from Port Hardy council.
The passes are for the New Beginnings program, operated by North Island Crisis and Counselling Centre Society. It’s a program supporting adults seeking recovery from substance use and mental health challenges.
In a letter to the district’s chief administrative officer Heather Nelson-Smith, executive director Nicki Ranger says an important part of their recovery is social activities.
“Currently, the residents engage in bi-weekly bowling and drop in at the local gym,” said Ranger.
“Attending length swimming and aqua fit programs is always a highlight for residents and they are looking forward to being back in the pool.”
Ranger says they are asking for a donation of adult swim passes and/or punch cards, hoping to get five books of ten adult tickets or five punch cards for residents to use multiple times.
The letter will be shown to Port Hardy council tonight, with the meeting starting at 7:00 p.m.
