High-speed Internet finally comes to Quatsino, Coal Harbour

Several North Island communities finally have access to high-speed Internet, thanks to the province, Telus, and Mount Waddington Regional District.

New infrastructure has been installed for the Quatsino First Nation, and also for residents in Coal Harbour.

Andrew Hory, chair of the Regional District of Mount Waddington, says connecting northern Vancouver Island residents to reliable high-speed Internet has been a primary objective for the past decade.

Norman Champagne, senior manager for the Quatsino Nation, says the upgrade will make it easier for the community to collaborate and stay connected, as well as preserve and share traditions and stories in the digital age.

The province and Telus each contributed $2.6 million and the regional district nearly $38,000. Some Sproat Lake and Nanoose Bay residents also received new upgrades.
