Several notable Vancouver Islanders were honoured with King Charles the Third Coronation Medals in Victoria this week.
The award was started by Governor-General Mary Simon to recognize people who have made significant contributions to Canada and their home provinces. It’s the first Canadian honour to mark a coronation.
The first round of BC honours were awarded on July 18 at Government House in Victoria by Lieutenant (LEFF-tenant) Governor Janet Austin. Among the recipients were retired military personnel, entrepreneurs and philanthropists, and athletes.
Some Vancouver Island recipients were Alex Muir, the longest-serving volunteer with the Royal Marine Search and Rescue, and Dr. Judith Sayers, president of the Nuu-Chah-Nulth tribal council.
Across Canada, 30,000 people will receive the award.
