A new beach-cleanup program on the North Island will reward visitors for removing plastic debris from local beaches.
Natalie Stewart with Vancouver Island North Tourism says the region tends to attract visitors who love nature, are adventurous, and are willing to go a bit further to experience the rugged coast. The new program, called The Wild Pledge, lets them help preserve nature, by packing out trash they might find on the trails. Sign-ups will get a free tote bag.
When people dispose of the debris they’ve collected at official drop-off points, they will be eligible for prizes including a free pint of local craft beer, gift shop discounts, and discounted accommodations.
