Local Tour de Rock fundraising campaign earns over $21,000

Over $21,000 has been raised to help support Tour de Rock as they gear up to ride 1,200 km across Vancouver Island in support of childhood cancer research and Camp Goodtimes.

This year, supporters weighed in on several auctioned-off items along with head shaves with all proceeds going to Tour de Rock’s 1,200 km trek across Vancouver Island.

Tour De Rock rider and Sun FM midday host Nicholas Arnold says community support is what drives this campaign forward and to see the final amount raised is extremely heartwarming.

“People showed up and they were incredibly generous, the generosity was definitely on display again,” he says. “Every time there is a worthy cause, like Tour de Rock, the community shows up.

“We had a lot of silent auction items, live auction items.”

Community support from all avenues came out to make sure the event took place, which Arnold says was key in making sure everything ran smoothly and efficiently.

He says the event wouldn’t have happened without their support.

“From the support of the volunteers to the attendees, and donors, they all made a huge impact in our fundraising campaign towards the greater goal of a million dollars,” he says.

The final total raised during the event was $21,314.34.
