Work on Electric Highway is getting finished, says BC government

You could soon drive electric throughout all of BC, as work on an Electric Highway is getting finished.

The BC Government says this highway is a network of public electric vehicle charging stations located on all the highways and roadways in the province. The goal is to open up electric vehicle travel from Alaska through BC and along the west coast down to California.

Minister of Energy, Mines, and Low Carbon Innovation Josie Osborne says this change comes as people are on the frontlines of climate change.

“They are seeing the impacts on their communities and making the switch to clean energy – including electric vehicles – in record numbers,” said Osborne.

The province says the highway will include 155 sites and over 310 fast chargers, with hopes of keeping things in reach for electric vehicles.

Along with this highway, the province looks to build 10,000 public stations by 2030, with more than 5,300 currently running.

They expect all the charging sites to be ready and open to the public before the end of September.
