An Indigenous health centre manager is asking for a road closure for a Truth and Reconciliation March.
In a notice, manager of the Ḵ̓wa̱la’sta Healing Centre Cathie Wilson is asking Port Hardy council to close a portion of Granville Street and Market Street for National Day of Truth and Reconcilliation.
The goal of this closure is to hold a march on that day to raise awareness and honour the survivors of Residential Schools and to remember those who never returned home.
Wilson says if approved, it would be a temporary closure, running from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
There would be alternate routes, which include access to businesses in the Chevron, Rexall, and Home Hardware from Rupert Street, and access to Save-On-Foods from Rupert Street.
The request will be presented to mayor and council on the Tuesday council meeting, starting at 7:00 p.m.
