The final costs for rebuilding the Port Hardy pool are in, and the project was completed under budget.
According to a report to council by Chief Administrative Officer Heather Nelson-Smith, the renovations cost just under $5 million, under budget by nearly $7,700.
She says the project was plagued by delays and unexpected expenses, including increased overall construction costs, pandemic-related disruptions, and issues getting crucial materials shipped from overseas. The pool was closed for three years during the rebuild.
However, she says since re-opening, the community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive and the pool is again a hub for activity and recreation.
The final step will be to get the hot tub and sauna running again, for next year.
