Bring your questions for North Island candidates Thursday

You can question the candidates for the North Island riding at a meeting on Thursday.

The Vancouver Island North Teacher’s Association is hosting an All-Candidates meeting, with the goal of getting the candidates to answer questions from the media and public.

Local President Shawn Gough says they hope the residents get the chance to hear from the candidates on their positions in education, economy, and other issues.

“We’re hoping the candidates will be here and are willing to interact with their constituents in this meeting,” said Gough.

“Teachers are always interested in hearing what the candidates have to say. We tend to be involved in our community, and to make the right decisions for each person, they’ll need to be able to hear the candidates and their positions, particularly in education.”

He says the meeting will see several phases, including the candidates answering eight prepared questions, a chance for media to ask questions, and for the public to submit or ask questions to them.

The planned questions include how they will ensure infrastructure for housing is provided, what investments would be made for mental health services, and what will be done to increase funding for schools.

The candidates will each get 2 minutes to answer a question, with Gough hoping that 45 minutes of the meeting will be dedicated to the public’s questions.

The meeting can be attended for free, and it’s taking place at the Port Hardy Secondary School Multi-Purpose Room, located at Granville Street.

The meeting runs from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday.
