Communities around Kingcome Inlet east of Port McNeill are under a flood watch, the River Forecast Centre announced today.
A storm system is moving south along the coast, bringing moderate to heavy rain. In the last 24 hours weather stations on the south coast and North Island have recorded up to 60 millimetres of rain, with more in the forecast.
On Wednesday water levels in the Kingcome River started to rise, and this morning the water levels at Kingcome Village were measured at 5.2 metres.

With storms on the way, and depending on the tides, the river could experience flooding in the coming days and could pose a risk to life and safety.
The River Forecast Centre will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates.
