On Vancouver Island, BC Hydro reports outages in the Victoria area, as well as in the Gulf Islands.

More than 2,300 customers on Gabriola Island were in the dark as of 6 am.

Small outages were also reported in the Comox area, Quadra Island and near Sawyard.

On Tuesday, Environment and Climate Change Canada issued weather statements for Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, Gulf Islands, and the Central Coast.

Meteorologists warned strong winds could knock down trees and cause power outages and cause travel delays.

Heavy rainfall was also expected in many parts of the region that could lead to flash floods and water pooling on roads, as well as washouts near waterways.
