Uber services will soon be made available to Vancouver Island residents outside of Victoria.
Uber plans to expand the ridesharing program in early 2025, encouraging British Columbians to sign up as drivers.
General Manager of Mobility for Uber Canada Michael van Hemmen said despite the plan to go all over the province, service will only be provided where drivers sign up and actively complete trips.
“It’s time that residents across the province have the same access to rideshare as they do in Vancouver, Victoria, and Kelowna to help get them where they need to go, when they need to.”
The company first expanded to Vancouver in 2020, and recently expanded to Victoria and Kelowna in 2023.
Drivers who sign up and complete their profile and take 10 trips within the first four weeks of launch will be eligible for a $500 incentive.
Chief Executive Officer of MADD Canada Steve Sullivan said they partnered with Uber Canada to help reduce the number of impaired driving crashes.
“Ridesharing has been vital in the fight against impaired driving and soon more British Columbians will have this transportation option to get them home safely.”
There is no set date for launch other than early 2025 and more information will be provided when available Uber Canada said in a press release.
