Unionized railway workers with CN are holding a strike vote on Monday, which could impact shipping and economies across Canada.
Unifor national president Lana Payne says the bargaining issues are job security, compensation, and working conditions, as well as an outdated pension plan. She says the union’s priority is to secure a fair agreement, and strike votes will reinforce their position.
The union points out CN Rail has made record profits this year, and they want to secure gains that will support workers now and into the future.
The Union and CN have been bargaining in Montreal this week, calling for the removal of concessions and for a new collective agreement. The current agreement expires on December 31.
The union represents more than 3,600 workers across the country.
