As part of provincial legislation, the District of Port Hardy has released their housing targets for the future.
Legislation passed in 2023 requiring local governments to provide housing needs assessments over five- and 20-year periods by the end of 2024.
The district released their report at their November 26 council meeting, with numerous documents attached to provide supplementary information.
Over a five-year period, the district projects 180 new housing units will be needed while the number over 20-years is 286.
Demand buffer units are the most needed kind with the district projecting over 93 units to be needed.
Other numbers include over 81 units for suppressed household formations, nearly 54 extreme core housing needs, and nearly 25 anticipated household growth units.
