Port Hardy’s skate park is still on track to open again in spring, after ongoing renovations and expansions are finished.
Crews and machinery continue working on the Kyle Scow Memorial skate park, they have removed the old structures to make way for a significant new footprint, which will include urban and terrain elements. The existing concrete slab will be re-used, saving time and construction costs. Once cleared the site will be prepared for expansion and addition of a new bowl.
Construction will continue throughout fall, with the goal of opening the park in spring next year, weather-permitting. Over a half-million dollars have been allocated for the upgrade to the park, which was built in 2003, no tax increase was required.
The work is being done by Radius Skateparks, a Vancouver Island company.
