Canada’s Supreme Court judges will start 150th anniversary tour on Vancouver Island

It’s the 150th anniversary of Canada’s Supreme Court next year, and to commemorate, the top federal judge is touring the nation, starting on Vancouver Island.

In February Chief Justice Richard Wagner will meet with law students from UVIC and secondary schools in Victoria. Along with two other judges, Wagner will also host a public forum at the Victoria Conference Centre to answer questions from the public.

In a video statement he says the tour will help Canadians understand the court’s role in shaping society.

“I hope you can join us, in commemorating the role of the court in Canadian society, and charting our path for future generations,” he says.

Wagner will visit the Island on February 4 and 5.

The Victoria visit is the only one in Western Canada. Other stops will be in Moncton, Thunder Bay, Sherbrooke, and Yellowknife.
