Wind and rainfall warnings have been issued for Courtenay and Campbell River, and winds warnings are out for the Sunshine Coast and eastern Vancouver Island.
Meteorologists at Environment and Climate Change Canada say strong and gusty southeast winds are expected tonight as a deep low pressure system approaches Vancouver Island.
The winds are expected to ease Saturday afternoon.
Wind speeds will be 70 kilometres per with gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour.
Strong winds can bring down tree branches and cause power outages, damage buildings, and toss loose objects around which may cause injury or damage.
Between 30 and 50 millimetres of rain is expected for the Campbell River and the Comox Valley area by midday Saturday morning.
There may be water pooling on roads and highways and localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas.
