High winds are in the forecast for the northern part of Vancouver Island today, with southeast winds expected to hit 90 kilometres per hour.
Some regions may experience winds that are even stronger.
According to Environment Canada, a Pacific frontal system approaching the BC coast is bringing strong winds to the region. Ahead of the system, strong southeast winds are expected along exposed coastal sections of North Vancouver Island and the Central Coast.

Winds were expected to start dying down this afternoon. However, they may result in power outages and fallen tree branches.
There were a few isolated power outages this afternoon on the North Island, but so far only about a dozen customers from Campbell River to Port Hardy have been affected.
