New Chair and directors appointed to BC Hydro

BC Hydro will be having a new chair and three directors for their board this year.

On Friday, the BC Government has announced changes to the BC Hydro Board of Directors, with the goal of keeping works such as making rates affordable, expanding critical electricity infrastructure, and managing droughts as high priorities.

They say Glen Clark has been appointed as BC Hydro’s new chair, taking over from Lori Wanamaker who finishes her term on December 31. Clark comes into the role with experience in leadership, corporate relations, and resource development, having served as a former premier, minister of finance and corporate relations, and was president of the Jim Pattison Group.

For the new directors, Merran Smith, Brynn Bourke, and Don Kayne have been appointed.

“Merran represents Canada on the C3E International Ambassador Corps,” said the province. “The founder of Clean Energy Canada, Smith is broadly recognized as a fearless advocate and national leader in advancing Canada’s clean, zero-carbon economy.”

They say Smith is president of New Economy Canada, working with several partners to tackle the most pressing social and ecological challenges.

For Bourke, she works as executive director of the BC Building Trades, where they have opened the College of BC Building Trades, launched a youth ambassador program connecting apprentices with high school students, and secured improved sanitation protocols for construction sites during her term.

The province says Kayne is president and CEO of Canfor Corporation, bringing years of experience in international sales, marketing, human resources, and executive compensation through his time in the forestry industry.

They add outside of those changes, the board remains the same heading into the new year.
