Two Port Hardy residents could be nominated for the province’s highest awards by district council.
In a letter to mayor and council, the BC Honours and Awards Secretariat is calling for nominations for the Order of British Columbia and Medal of Good Citizenship, the two top honours for the province.
The Order is meant to recognize those who have shown outstanding achievement in a field benefiting others in BC. For the medal, it recognizes those who have significantly contributed to their community without expecting money in return.
They say council should nominate people from the district for their accomplishments provincially, nationally, or internationally for the Order, with youth between the ages of 15 and 25 to be nominated for the medal.
Deadline for nominations is April 4 this year, with the nominations to be considered next year.
The letter will be presented to council for their first council meeting of 2025, running Tuesday night, starting at 7:00 p.m.
