Several King Charles III medal coronations set for Island & Coast

Several people will be honoured with King Charles III coronation medals starting Tuesday.

North Island-Powell River MP Rachel Blaney announced this afternoon that seven ceremonies will take place throughout the Island and Coast, celebrating those getting the King Charles III coronation medal.

The medal is awarded to those who have made significant contributions to Canada and their home province, with this year seeing 20 to 21 people receiving the medal.

Blaney says six recipients come from Comox, one from Port Hardy, Port McNeill, Gold River, and Alert Bay respectively, three to four from Powell River, and seven from Campbell River.

The Comox recipients include Patti Alvarado, who runs an Indigenous Women’s Sharing Society and Unbroken Chain in the Comox Valley, manager of the Totem Times newspaper Camille Douglas, president of the Comox Valley Ukrainian Cultural Society Janette Martin-Lutzer, former Comox Valley Search and Rescue Manager David Mellin, former Seargent Nina Usherwood, and Afghanistan War veteran Seargent William Webb.

The first ceremony starts in Comox, taking place at the Crown Isle ballroom, starting at 4:15 p.m

Port Hardy and Port McNeill’s ceremonies start on February 28th, followed by Gold River on March 3, Campbell River on March 5, Powell River on March 8, and Alert Bay on March 15.
