BC Ferry Commission appoints new deputy ferries commissioner

A new deputy ferries commissioner for the BC Ferry Commission has been appointed.

Former auditor general of the B.C. Legislature Carol Bellringer will serve a six-year term in the role following a competitive and public application process.

Bellringer is a full-time governance professional who chairs the University of Victoria Foundation board and sits on boards and audit committees of organizations in the energy, transportation, and public sectors.

Bellringer retired from auditing after having worked as the president and CEO of the Canadian Audit and Accountability foundation.

The BC Ferry commission operates under the Coastal Ferry Act and works independently of the provincial government and BC Ferry Services Inc.

The commission sets price caps on the maximum allowable annual increase in fares and approves major expenditures for BC Ferries.
