Heavy rains this weekend for Vancouver Island the Sunshine Coast have prompted the River Forecast Centre to issue a High Streamflow Advisory.
Rivers on Southern Vancouver Island around Duncan, Chemainus and surrounding areas, and on the Sunshine Coast are most at risk.
In addition, rivers on Western Vancouver Island near Tofino, Ucluelet, and Port Renfrew are also expected to experience higher flows.
The River Forecast Center says an atmospheric river will bring heavy from Friday night through Sunday.
Beginning tonight, streamflows may rise rapidly, but significant flooding is not anticipated.
However, localized flooding is possible and there is the threat of water pooling on highways and roads.
Fast-flowing rivers pose increased risks and people are urged to be cautious along river banks.
West Vancouver Island may received 150 to 200 millimetres of precipitation and South Coast Mountains may see 100 to 200 millimetres, and freezing levels will likely rise to 1500 metres.
