BC Hydro President and CEO to retire this summer

BC Hydro’s President and CEO is set to retire this summer.

In a statement issued today, Hydro announced that Chris O’Reilly will be retiring from the position after serving in the role for eight years.

His career with Hydro began as an engineer-in-training in 1990, rising the ranks to join the executive team in 2007, before taking the mantle of President and CEO in 2017. Hydro says he was the longest-serving President and CEO in their history.

Board Chair of the BC Hydro Board of Directors Glen Clark says the board extends appreciation for his contributions, adding that they look forward to continuing working with him in the coming months.

They say during his tenure, O’Reilly oversaw large expansions of electrical infrastructure, oversaw the Site C Clean Energy Project, led the company through the pandemic, helped advance reconciliation efforts with Indigenous communities, and brought in Hydro’s 10-year Capital Plan.

In the meantime, the Board will be searching for a successor to O’Reilly.

His retirement comes into effect August 1.
