Island Health, ‘Namgis sign historic health care agreement

A North Island First Nation has signed an historic memorandum of understanding with the health authority to take more control over providing health care for its members.

The ‘Namgis First Nation signed the MOU with Island Health this week, marked by a signing ceremony on April 10 in Alert Bay.

The MOU is the first step towards a relationship agreement between the nation and health authority, which will oversee health services provided by the ‘Namgis Health Centre, a primary care clinic, which is owned by the ‘Namgis First Nation. The clinic offers a wide range of services, including general checkups.
