Funding will help Quatsino Nation better respond to emergencies, disasters

North Island communities are getting help from the province to be better prepared for natural disasters.

Funds from the Community Emergency Preparedness Program are flowing this spring to 111 projects around the province. That includes boosting training and response capacity in the Strathcona Regional District, through emergency exercises and ESS volunteer training.

It also includes funding to strengthen the Quatsino First Nation’s emergency-support capacity through volunteer training, digital registration tools, portable generators and comfort kits, as well as volunteer engagement activities to strengthen and sustain local response teams.

Quatsino Chief Tom Nelson says the funding will help them respond quickly and confidently to emergencies, and also better prepare the nation to lead emergency response efforts when needed.
