The Canada Learning Bond is a Federal grant that helps low-income families start saving for their children’s post-secondary education.
Vancouver Island University is working to raise awareness of the program so families in the region can benefit from the program.
Dr. Ralph Nilson, VIU President and Vice-Chancellor says hundreds of eligible families don’t know about the opportunity.

Nilson says statistics show that a child living in a low-income family, who has at least $500 in an education savings account is four times more likely to enroll in a post-secondary institution.
The money, available from the Canada Learning Bond and the BC Training and Education Savings Grant, can add up to $3200.
