While the emergency room at Port Hardy Hospital has reopened, staffing levels are still preventing them from accepting ambulances.
An ambulance diversion is sending any emergency cases to the hospital in Port McNeill until 7 o’clock on Monday night.
The staffing shortage in the hospital completely closed the emergency department of the hospital on Sunday from 9 in the morning until 7 at night.
At the time of closure, Island Health apologized for any inconvenience and said they are ensuring that patients will be transported to an appropriate site.
They say, “If you are unsure if you are experiencing a medical situation requiring a visit to an emergency department, confidential health information and advice from a registered nurse is available toll free, 24/7 by calling HealthLink BC at 811.”
