Foundry now open in Port Hardy to provide support for young people

Young people on the North Island have better access to mental health and addiction supports, now that Foundry Port Hardy has opened.

Karen Tee, associate executive director at Foundry, says the goal is to improve the quality of life for young people everywhere.

It’s the first rural community to open a Foundry centre in BC. It offers young people between the ages of 12 and 24 free and confidential, age-friendly and supportive services, such as drop-in counselling, peer support and physical and sexual health care.

The centre is currently open at a temporary location on Market Street while planning continues for a permanent site. It is operated by North Island Crisis and Counselling Centre.

Satellite services are also being planned for Port McNeill.
