Port McNeill kids on a field trip to Courtenay Thursday were dismayed to find their belongings stolen off their school bus.

Students from Sunset Elementary traveled three hours from the North Island on Thursday to visit the Courtenay museum and see the dinosaur fossils. The driver came in with the children and their teachers.

Shortly after they went inside, someone broke into the un-watched bus and stole whatever they could carry. Several backpacks, kids clothes, stuffies, and phones were stolen, and the thieves appeared to only target the first few rows, according to parents.

It happened on Thursday at about 12 p.m outside the museum on Courtenay’s 4th Street. The North Island School District 85 has declined to comment on the incident.
