North Island College will have new members with diverse backgrounds joining the Board of Governors this summer.
In a release, the college says John Jack and Roger Kishi are joining the board for 2 years, replacing Barry Minaker, who served on multiple committees, and former chair and vice-chair Jane Atherton.
This change comes after Corrine Stavness joined the board in December, with the college saying all three bring a lot of experience in different areas including housing, economic development, and forestry.
Kishi works as co-coordinator of the Wachiay Friendship Centre’s Homeless and Housing Programs, was a Cumberland councillor for 7 years, served as director and finance committee member of the St. Joseph’s Hospital board, and is a founding director of the Beaufort Family Health Society.
He says with his experience in affordable housing, he is interested in the college’s work with student housing.
For Jack, not only is he the chief councillor for the Huu-ay-aht First Nations, but also a member of Vancouver Island University’s board of governors. He and his wife also run a consulting business for First Nations and Indigenous organizations.
The college adds for Stavness, she works as vice president of corporate affairs at Western Forest Products, with her previous work including the director of prevention services and communication for the Ending Violence Association of BC.
Kishi and Jack will start their new jobs in July.
