North Island – Powell River MP accepts award for advocating for women veterans

North Island-Powell River MP Rachel Blaney has been recognized for her work on behalf of military veterans and their families.

Last week, Blaney was given the 2024 Esprit de Corps Women in Defence Award for her advocacy, including a parliamentary study on the experience of women veterans.

The award is given to those making a big contribution to the country’s defence sector.

Blaney says it’s an honour to accept the award.

“Never in a million years when I was elected did I think I would be recognized for making a positive change for women in defence,” said Blaney.

“I’ve been fortunate to learn as much as I have about how women in defence contribute to the Canadian Armed Forces.”

Blaney says women have a place in the military, and that we should do what we can to make sure the armed forces is adapting to work for women by supporting and listening to those currently serving.
