With FILOMI Days returning next weekend, expect temporary road closures in Port Hardy.
In a notice, the district says that multiple roads will be closed for the event which celebrates Port Hardy’s fishing, logging, and mining industries, and culture. The closures are for the event’s Fairground Vendors area, annual Lion’s Club Parade, and Kids Soap box Derby.
For the vendors area, a section of Market Street will be closed to all traffic from the Hastings Street intersection to just past Douglas Street in front of the North Shore Inn from 4 p.m. on July 19 to midnight on July 21.
A portion of Main and Douglas streets will be closed too, with adjoining roads open to local traffic only.
During the parade, Granville Street will be closed from the Douglas Street intersection to Market Street, with that street to be closed from Applewood Motors to Tsulquate Park. Those closures run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 20.
They say while the soap box derby runs, Granville Street will again be closed, this time from the Douglas Street intersection to the Save-on-Foods parking lot entrance from 8 to 11 a.m. on July 20.
While these closures are in effect, you are encouraged to plan travel accordingly, and to use detours when required.
