Port Alice seeks feedback to improve sidewalks, bike lanes

The Village of Port Alice is looking for public feedback on plans to make the town more pedestrian and bicycle-friendly.

The village is developing an Active Transportation Plan, which will guide future infrastructure upgrades. Under consideration are 16 upgrades, including a 300-metre seawalk extension, extending the dike walk trail to allow ATV access, and numerous pedestrian connections and crosswalk improvements.

Some of the improvements will formalize existing pedestrian routes, and fixing access points for people with mobility challenges.

The three biggest issues are that current paths for pedestrians are disconnected; crossings are poorly-lit and some are not accessible for people in wheelchairs; and there are no dedicated cycling paths along Marine Drive.

The plan is currently open for public comment, visit the village’s website for more information.

The community survey is the second put forth by the village and is available here.
