Paralympian medalist Nicholas Bennett will be at the Ravensong Aquatic Centre in Qualicum Beach and the Regional District of Nanaimo is inviting everyone to come out and celebrate his accomplishments.
Bennett, a Parksville resident, has won two gold medals and a silver in both the 100-metre breaststroke and the 200-metre breaststroke in the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
According to RDN, in addition to recognizing Bennett’s accomplishments the ceremonies will also all those who qualified and participated in Paris, including five-time Paralympian Trevor Hirschfield. Hirschfield was co-captain of Team Canada’s wheelchair rugby team.
RDN chair Vanessa Craig says Bennett’s accomplishments have made a significant impact on himself, the district and all those who strive for excellence.
“It takes a tremendous amount of commitment and support for athletes to achieve their dreams and succeed on the international stage,” she says. “We wish him continued success in his future athletic endeavors.”
Mayor of Qualicum Beach Teunis Westbroek says the whole community is behind Bennett and they’re proud to have such a fine athlete in the community.
“The Town of Qualicum Beach is incredibly proud to have such a world-class athlete in our midst,” he says. “We congratulate Nicholas on his remarkable achievement of winning gold and silver at the 2024 Paralympics.”
Celebrations are expected to start on Nov. 1 between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and enjoy refreshments as well as have their picture taken with Bennett.
