Christmas Day will see multiple ferry cancellations throughout the Island & Coast.
In several notices, BC Ferries has announced that multiple sailings are at risk of getting cancelled because of the expected high winds and waves in the Strait of Georgia and North Vancouver Island.
This comes as Environment and Climate Change Canada have issued two wind warnings, saying a wind system will be bringing winds as high as 100 to 120 kilometers on Christmas.
They say the routes at risk of cancellation are Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, Tsawwassen to Duke Point, Port McNeill to Cormorant Island to Malcolm Island, Westview to Blubber Bay, Campbell River to Quathiaski Cove, and Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay.
Of those routes, Tsawwassen to Duke Point, Port McNeill to Cormorant to Malcolm, Westview to Blubber Bay, and Campbell River to Quathiaski Cove are at risk of all-day ferry cancellations.
The ferry-line adds one route has confirmed cancellations, with six sailings cancelled on Christmas for Little River to Westview between 9:55 a.m. and 8:45 p.m. If you booked for one of those sailings, they say you will hear from their Customer Service Centre to see if you can be fit to a different sailing that day or to cancel your booking.
Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay has 12 sailings that could get canceled, the first at 11:00 a.m., and the last at 9:00 p.m. Departure to Horseshoe also has 12 possible cancellations, with the earliest at 10:40 a.m., and the latest at 10:10 p.m.
They say staff are monitoring weather conditions and will share updates when information is available.
