Stage one water restrictions in effect starting Wednesday

Port Hardy will be under stage one water restrictions starting this Wednesday.

The district announced the restrictions on Monday, saying the water reservoir will be decommissioned tomorrow.

This work will temporarily lower their water storage capacity by 30 percent, possibly more.

As a result, Stage one water conservation will come into effect to keep the district’s water stable.

For even-numbered houses, you can water between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. or 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. For odd-numbered houses, you can only water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays at the same hours.

They say under these restrictions, you can wash your vehicle, RV, boat, and house at anytime by using pail, using the hose with the nozzle shut off, or by going to a car wash.

You can also fill pools, hot tubs, and fountains, and pressure-wash driveways anytime. If you plan to sprinkle new lawns, the district says you should get a permit.

They add that you should monitor the water conservation status regularly for any change, follow the watering restrictions, and educate others about the conservation status.
