Large quantities of drugs deadly than fentanyl intercepted at major Canadian ports

A large quantity of drugs has been intercepted by the CBSA and RCMP that they say can be 20 times more potent than fentanyl.

The drugs were seized at two points of entry, but law enforcement officials say they believe they are linked to international organized crime.

According to reports, on Jan. 3, several quantities of narcotics, including Nitazenes were seized in Mississauga and in Vancouver. Law enforcement officials are saying this is a huge red flag and local police should be on alert.

“Nitazenes are used to ‘cut’ street drugs in Canada, and their high potency can increase the risk of overdose, particularly when mixed with other substances,” they say.

Along with seizure, police say they intercepted multiple shipments of synthetic opioids from China, along with five kilograms of narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and more than $120,000 in cash and other proceeds of crime.

RCMP say they were able to arrest one man in connection with the seizure, and a 36-year-old man will face several drug related charges, and Unlawful Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
