Tariffs will place burden on salmon farming in Canada; says BC association

The BC Salmon Farmers Association says US tariffs will place a substantial burden on Canada’s salmon farming sector.

The association says 70 percent of BC farm-raised salmon is shipped to American customers and a 25 percent tariff would reduce American demand by 32 to 40 percent,

That will decrease salmon farmers’ revenues by as much as 142.4 million dollars per year and reduce incomes for Canadian workers by 68 to to over 73 million dollars.

The tariffs could result a loss of roughly 12-hundred jobs.

The association says farm-raised salmon plays a vital role in Canadian food security and trade, contributing nearly 1.2 billion dollars in annual economic activity while supporting communities and over 4,500 jobs across the country.
